Think before you dig...

With all of the different utilities that run to your home, there's really no way of knowing for sure where they're all buried. Between underground electrical wires and cables, telephone lines, and buried cable television and satellite connectors, it's almost harder to find an area of your yard that DOESN'T contain buried wires, cables and utilities.

Digging into these lines and cutting the shield can be both dangerous and expensive to repair. Electrocution is a very real possibility should you make an error in guessing the location of these buried electrical wires.

And utility companies will typically only locate the wires that run directly from their street panel to the outside panel of your home or business. This doesn't begin to tell you where all the hidden risks are buried though. So, before you dig, call PES Electric and we'll locate the power, tv, and telephone cables hidden beneath your lawn so you can safely proceed with your project.

The service is very affordable especially when you consider the alternative of causing bodily harm or expensive repairs to your home's infrastructure.

Mark Your Buried Cables for Safety

You may have heard or been told that a metal detector is a good way to locate and mark underground wiring. This is FALSE!  While it's true a metal detector can detect the copper and other metals inside the shielded cover of some cables, it is not a reliable means of accurately identifying the exact location of dangerous electrical wires. And when electrocution is the consequence of a minor miscalculation, you really want as much accuracy as possible.

Our wire and cable location devices are able to send a distinct signal along the buried cables that is then transmitted to the receiving apparatus above ground to guide the location equipment along the path of the underground wires. This technique diminishes the frequency of false readings that occur with metal detectors and other devices.

Avoid cheap over-the-counter location devices when considering locating your buried utilities as well. The consequences for getting it wrong are too severe if you're untrained or unskilled at properly detecting and marking these buried hazards.

Once located, we mark the location of the buried utilities using paint and flags so that their location is easily observed while digging into the ground around the wires and cables.

Reasons for Locating Buried Electrical Wires

We are continually adding upgrades to our homes and yards. Often we need to bury additional lines for new telephone or television services. To do so, we need to first identify the location of the existing underground wires.

Installing irrigation systems is another frequent reason we need to dig trenches in our yards. Since irrigation systems typically criss-cross and meander thru our lawns, they are a particularly high risk for crossing paths with buried electric cables. In fact, it's nearly guaranteed you'll be installing the irrigation delivery system across, over, or under more than one potential buried hazard.

This means you should ALWAYS take the precaution of first locating all the underground utilities in your yard prior to beginning work of this sort.

It only takes one miscalculation to lead to disastrous results.  So, call PES Electric BEFORE YOU DIG!
